Richard Matheson was born in New Jersey in 1926. He is a master of modern science fiction, fantasy and horror, and Stephen King credits him with single-handedly regenerating a stagnant genre. Matheson's first published story, 'Born of Man and Woman' appeared in The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction in 1950 and was the title story of his first collection, published four years later.

Richard Christian Matheson was born in 1953. He is a novelist, short story writer and screenwriter/producer. RC is also the president of Matheson Entertainment, a production company he formed with his father, which is involved with multiple film and television projects. He began his career in the late 1970s as an advertising copywriter and writer for stand-up comedians. At twenty, he became the youngest writer ever signed to an overall deal with Universal Studios.

Alan Lee was born in Middlesex, England in 1947. After moving to a small village on the edge of Dartmoor, in Devon, in the mid-1970s, Alan Lee shared a studio with Brian Froud and together they created the groundbreaking illustrated book Faeries (1978), which was later turned into an animated movie. The success of this picture book gave Alan Lee the freedom to spend several years bringing the Celtic myth of The Mabinogion to life, and Dragon's Dream eventually published the lovingly-crafted result in 1982. Two years later he published Castles, written by David Day, which along with his subtle watercolour paintings also included numerous pencil drawings and studies.

China Miéville was born in 1972 in Norwich, England, and grew up in north-west London. His first novel, King Rat, appeared in 1998, since when he has published such critically acclaimed and popular novels as Perdido Street Station (2000), The Scar (2002), Iron Council (2004), Un Lun Dun (2007), The City & the City (2009), Kraken (2010) and Embassytown (2011). His short fiction has been collected in 'Looking for Jake' and Other Stories (2005), and he has also written for role-playing games and comics.
